Car Delivery Service Tips

Car Delivery Service

A car delivery service can get your car where it needs to go, but it will ultimately be up to you to prepare it properly prior to shipping it. Doing so will make the transport process both easier and safer for you and the auto shipping delivery service.

How to Prepare Your Car for Shipping

Car delivery service drivers need to complete a pre-delivery inspection prior to loading a vehicle onto the automobile transport truck, so there are some minor details you will need to take care of before this inspection is completed.

Make sure the inside of your car is clean. Remove any loose items, such as CDs, radar detectors, or garage door openers. In addition, you will need to remove all personal effects from your trunk prior to handing over your vehicle to a car delivery service as well.

Clean the outside of your car. Doing so will make it easier for both you and the auto shipping driver to see if there are any notable dings, dents, or other damage to the car prior to the auto delivery service taking possession of it. Make sure to remove anything non-permanent that may be mounted on your automobile, such as a bike rack, storage rack, or spoiler.

Understanding Your Bill of Lading

Once the car delivery service driver inspects your vehicle, he will make all applicable notes on your Bill of Lading (BOL) and present it to you to sign. Make sure that you agree with everything that is contained on your BOL before signing off on it. Some of the information that you may find on your BOL will include:

  • Your phone number
  • Vehicle pickup and drop-off locations
  • Applicable vehicle information such as VIN number, license plate number, make, model, year, etc.
  • Vehicle condition

Your chosen car delivery service may also provide information such as terms and conditions, fees, a Carrier’s Statement of Liability, and more. After you have verified all information and signed your BOL, it is important that you ask the vehicle delivery service driver for a copy of it before he leaves.

It is crucial that you are there to meet with the car delivery service driver when he arrives to drop off your vehicle. If you are given the option to accept your vehicle during daylight hours, take it.

You will need to perform a post-delivery inspection of your car with the vehicle transport service driver to make sure it is in the same condition that it left in. Once everything is verified, you and the car delivery service driver can sign off on the BOL and you can take final possession of your vehicle.
